SPARTANS FINISH SEASON AT HOME — SORT OF

By JOE SCANNELLA Spartans News Service EVERETT, WA. The Seattle Spartans (1-4) women's football team close out their season with a home game on the road. Yes, you read that right. Saturday's game against the Capital Pioneers (4-0) kicks off 6 p.m. at French Field in Kent. That's a 40-minute drive south from Everett. In last week's games, Seattle lost 14-8 in a rematch with Oregon Cougars. while the Kern County Crusaders forfeited to the Pioneers. The last time the Pioneers took to the field was a 46-7 win April 30 over Portland. Seattle's ground game has taken on a new luster behind veteran halfback Ashley Gearardo and rookie running backs Andraliah Lee and Maka Keala. Lee's 440 yards on 76 carries, which includes six touchdowns, ranks her third among the Women's Football Alliance Division II's rushers, while Keala (53-240) has come on strong in the past two games. Lee adds a 2-point PAT, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and three pass deflections. Seattle halfback Nicole Pelham (56-246, one touchdown) is ranked eighth in the division, Keala is ranked No. 10, and Gearardo (50-206) is 14th despite missing two games. Seattle's rushing offense (1,165 yards) is second in the division. Seattle's No. 4 defense is paced by linebacker Yollymor Delgado (25 tackles, 14 solo, three sacks). Defensive linewomen London Hester-Williams, Charity Reed and Emily Ketzenberg each have a fumble recovery, while safety Sabrina MacDonald adds three pass deflections. Pelham adds 20 tackles and two sacks from the linebacker position. The Pioneers offense, ranked 12th in Division III, includes 647 yards rushing. Running backs Clarissa Adams and Brittany Anderson each have two fumble recoveries, and linebacker Alyssa Flores has a blocked kick. Quarterback Danielle Dunn adds four 2-point PATs. ALL STARS: Five Seattle Spartans were named to the WFA's American Conference All-American team. They are: Ashley Gearardo (tailback, second team), Katrina Rooks (center, second team), Ines Cuevas (offensive line, second team), Rachel Killstrom (offensive line, second team), and London Hester-Williams (linebacker, second team). They are eligible to play in the WFA's all star weekend games July 10 at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio.
